Displaying at the local establishment iconiko, "Home Grown" is an exhibition featuring the artwork of Nic Everist and Abby Lee.
Highlighting the significance of time, Nic Everist's artworks in this collection center around the practice of embracing the present moment. During her journey of motherhood and finding a balance between that role and her identity as an artist, Nic has discovered solace by focusing her attention on the current moment and immersing herself in her surroundings. This newfound practice has been particularly influential when visiting the natural environments she has explored since moving to the coastal area, which has consequently transformed her studio practice. These artworks celebrate the intricate details of nature through the use of organic marks created by pouring paint onto the canvas, as well as deliberate and intentional marks to give each piece a recognisable form.
The concept of being present in the moment is evident throughout this collection. From the initial inspiration drawn from the ocean's tranquility and the observation of the chaotic beauty of native flora, to the meticulous attention to detail during the creative process in the studio, each artwork embodies a state of mindfulness.
Ultimately, these artworks celebrate the calmness and serenity that can be experienced in our everyday lives, reminiscent of the tranquility experienced when visiting the ocean.
We would like to acknowledge the Wathaurong people of the Kulin Nations as the Traditional Owners of the land that this work was created upon and the Tradition Owners of the lands that inspire each piece of this series and pay our respect to Elders both past and present.
