From a distance, a tree can look so ordinary - one colour, one shape, something we might walk past without giving much thought.

 

But look a little closer and an entirely different world appears.

You begin to notice the colours hidden beneath the surface, the crevices and scars, the marks left by insects, the tiny pockets of texture and life. Suddenly, the tree feels less like an object and more like a living thing.

 

And something about looking that closely makes you slow down.

 

This painting is a reminder that life is much the same.

 

So often, our days become a blur of getting everyone dressed, ticking things off and moving onto the next thing. We can be physically present while our minds are already somewhere else.

 

But life isn’t only happening in the big moments.

 

It’s happening in the morning coffee, the sunset through the window, picking flowers, laughing at your children’s silly jokes, or playing one more game on the swing.

These tiny, ordinary moments are often where so much of the magic lives - and yet they are so easy to miss.

Perhaps that is why I’ve become so drawn to looking closely at trees. They remind me that there is always more to see when we slow down.

The ordinary becomes extraordinary. The overlooked becomes beautiful. The little details become the whole story.

Maybe the magic isn’t something we need to go searching for.

Maybe it has been there all along.

We just need to slow down enough to see it.
